What You Get

Our package contained the grill, two non-stick pans, a double-sided spatula and an instruction manual / recipe book. The pans are a split pan divided pan and a “mini-food” pan for mini-muffins, appetizers, etc. The pans can be inserted into the cooker to suit different recipes - or the grill itself can be used without a pan to cook larger meals.

The recipe book / manual is great - it’s well-designed and printed in color. The instructions are quite simple, as one would hope for a device such as the RediSetGo. As for the recipe book, it contains nice beauty shots of the included recipes and each recipe is clearly coded for “Meals under 1$ per serving”, “Fast Meals”, “Meals that need only 3 ingredients” and “100 calorie snacks”. Also symbols appear for the pan(s) appropriate to each meal.

Does it do what it says?

In a word, yes. Our Xpress Ready-Set-Go grill heats up super quickly and is ready to cook. Cathy Mitchell’s recipes cover a lot of ground. We made a lot of them and were overall enjoying the results. Homemade pizzas using the included ‘almost instant pizza dough’ recipe, “Cini minis” (mini cinnamon rolls), grilled mexican burritos, and the mixed berry corn pancakes are our favorite meals so far. We also tried a few tougher assignments - almond crusted tilapia and quiche lorraine. The tilapia turned out light and perfectly cooked on our first try, and the quiche lorraine was delicious. Nearly everything we cooked took around 5-7 minutes to cook, and we never had problems with food burning or sticking to the pans or grill itself. Cleanup is very simple, all the more so when you cook using the insertable pans.

The grill can be stored easily, and can stand upright for narrow cabinets.

We have to commend the Ready Set Go for including well thought out recipes that are easy to prepare with food you probably already have in your fridge, and which are easy to get great results with. Clearly a lot of thought has been put not only into the grill itself, but the entire package.

Rating

4 1/2 of 5 stars. The Xpress Redi-Set-Go is a great indoor electric cooker; it’s small, well-designed and comes with everything you need to cook small meals successfully, even if you are not an experienced chef. Highly recommended! Buy online.

Our only qualm is those with very large families may want to consider buying two, or spending (a lot) more for larger appliances in this category.

Just got the redi set go last week. It does everything it says. Nice unit.
Only thing wrong is that on about the 3rd time I used it I used a piece of paper towel to wipe off the outside top of it and all the numbers and markings around the timer wiped off with it.

I really think $17 is too much for shipping!

I agree with you Dawn, $17 is too much for shipping but I looked at the price as an entire entity and $57 for the Redi-Set-Go shipped is still a bargain in my opinion. I’ve been comparing the RSG to the George Foreman Grill and those can cost a lot more and they don’t bake!

so… everything about it is great and worth the price, the only problems i’ve found others saying is 1. the numbers come off/scrape off quickly. 2. the black cooking part inside comes off after lots of uses (though that can be fixed by putting some foil into it; still cooks the same) 3. not good for big families (not a prob for me) is that it? if that’s all that’s wrong with it, i can deal with those things… should i get it?

So, have they improved the teflon peeling problem they had with the original GT Xpress 101?? If that problem has been fixed then I wouldn’t mind having one of these. But if it peels as badly as the original then I’ll have to pass.

I got one thinking that there would be recipes that would tell me how to cook the basics in it- i can’t cook at all, so i thought that this would free me up to cook something other than mac n cheese- well, no basic recipes came with the cooker and i can’t figure out how to use it! i am thinking about sending it back, but before i do, do any of you know where i could get basic recipes to use in this cooker? you know, chicken, casserole-type-things, see? i have NO imagination and NO cooking background! i can’t even come up with the basic recipes that I’m looking for! HELP!!!

Can somebody tell me the deal with the pan set? On the website it makes it seem like the extra pan set is four pans and a hand thing. The tiny print says each “shipment” contains two pans for $19.95 plus $4.95 shipping and handling. If you eventually get the eight pans listed on the help page then they will cost you $100 for eight instead of $20 for four as it appears to be advertised. That is some very sneaky and annoying business right there. Anybody have this? Enlighten me please.

I saw this on the TV. I tried to order it but I wanted to have it sent to my Granddaughter as a wedding present but my credit card was a different address than where I wanted it sent. So I need a phone number please. I wanted to order it because if I did it fast I wouldn’t have to pay shipping costs. I was considering ordering 2 of them. I HOPE to hear from you soon. Helen

I thought the same thing with the shipping at first, but it is a free upgrade, not free shipping. I am still thinking of getting one since I have to cook separately for my wheat free son all the time. This would be perfect for his specialty breads and for corn based items too!

Kiki - You should have received the “Meals In Minutes” recipe book with your Redi-Set-Go as well as the Bonus Recipes book including recipes for “Meals under $1″, “100 Calorie Snacks” and “3 Ingredients or Less”. If you didn’t receive these then you should contact the manufacturer.

Peach - I couldn’t find anything out about the eight pan set that you talked about even though I scoured the help page as you suggested. I just found the four additional pans on the Store page - http://www.redisetgo.com/drtv/ecs/redi-set-go-store.html

Just got mine yesterday… yes, the shipping is HORRIBLE - $17!!!! & it came from Ohio, where I live!! anyway, this thing is GREAT… made eggs in it this morning, and plan on making LOTS of corn bread, which I will eat until it comes out of my ears… however, whenever I use the base unit without the extra pans, I will be lining it with foil!! Someone somewhere said that’s the best way to keep it clean… I plan on using it for everything - baking, grilling, etc… and am glad I got it… will report back in a month or so!!!!!!!

I am wondering why all the extras advertised on their website were advertised to be what comes with the machine. When you are charged for them after you order and they add more shipping. I haven’t received my order yet but I am seriously thinking about returning it before I open. I feel they have lied to me.

I’m curious as to whether or not parchment paper can be used in it without problems. I don’t use foil because of it’s links with Alzheimer’s.

  19. Could the next person who has this unit please email me, and then post here that they’ve done so, so that I don’t get flooded.

I need to know if this releases steam when it is opened; we’re not allowed to have electric grills in our dorm, and I’m looking for a cooker that releases very little steam.

    Hi Bridget-

I have looked into this and that offer is still valid. The link takes you to a page that states only 2 payments of $19.95 instead of 3 payments. This is a 33% discount.

    6:53 pm on June 26th, 2009

    Kegan,
These units are not allowed in most dorms (I checked around) as they are considered cooking devices (ie, hotplate). However, I wanted to send one to my daughter. Since it is so portable, she is just going to take it to the kitchen to whip a quick meal.

    Good luck,
    Karen

Be careful when ordering the xpress redi-set-go. You can not avoid joining the recipe club. Even if you click “no thanks” it gets charged to you order anyway for an additional $9.95.

    Hmm,
Look’s very interesting, although I have concerns about it’s quality. Is this a unit that will hold up to being used several times a day? For how long? There are many grades of “teflon”. If it is the soft kind, then the pans have to be treated very carefully to avoid scratching and peeling, i.e. no metal utensils. Is there a warranty that covers peeling? A hard coated finish will last much longer. So you may have to replace pans more frequently (factor that into the total cost). As far as shipping and handling, that is where they make their profit. It’s a way of making the sale price as low as possible, and getting you on the back end. Also “expedited” shipping is another way. What I have a problem with is several people mentioning that they force you on their website to take the $9.95 a month recipe club even when declined (with additional S&H). Several people on Amazon have reported that they had to telephone the company to contest the additional charges.

I wanted to say I have the redi set go and love it!!! For those who want easy clean up, I just use my misto (a spray can you can put olive oil in). I spray the top and bottom put the food in and when done cooking and cooled just wipe out. I haven’t had anything stick to it yet. I even cooked a pizza in it today and the cheese burnt to the top but just wiped right off.

The commercial fooled me too. It said you could get the machine for 2 payments of $19.95 and they made it “sound” like I was getting free shipping. That was not the case when I saw my bank account had been drafted $36.90 and almost put me in the negative! I swear the next withdrawal better be for $19.95!!!

I just got my RediSetGo 3 days ago. My kids love it. Even my husband is impressed, and he didn’t want me to order it, because of the ridiculous shipping cost. My 12 year old son has been making cakes (very good, but always check with a toothpick for doneness), breakfast and lunch in it. He loves gadgets, and loves to cook, so this is right up his alley. I ordered on line directly from their website, and did not get charged for the recipe club. I also realized that I was only getting the 2 pans. I thought that was clear on the website. There have been no problems with sticking or the teflon, as yet. We just spray top and bottom with cooking spray. Wipe out with a damp paper towel. Just washed the divider pan in the dishwasher, and the teflon was not scratched or anything. Be sure not to use metal utensils. No, there is not a grease well, but we haven’t used it to cook only meat. It’s great for eggs, sandwiches & quick desserts. So far, it’s a hit.

I just ordered and did not get charged for the recipe cards. I just said no thanks for each additional offer after the original. As all of you wish, so did I that the shipping was cheaper. Then I had to remind myself, if the 5 boys start cooking some of their own meals, it will make my life simpler; no stove, no propane, no flame, etc. and easy clean-up. I can’t wait for it to arrive. One problem, now my 15-yr-old is addicted to infomercials!!! LOL

I, too, just ordered mine. I appreciate the tips and comments from all of you. As with everything, you must take time to read everything carefully. The free shipping notation was for a shipping “upgrade”, not free shipping.

It was a bit annoying having to read about all the special offers I was entitled to, then read the fine print at the bottom and say No THANKS (at least four times). But then, maybe someone might be interested in them.

I’ll let you know how it works for me (actually my husband wants it!).

Several people have asked about the quality of the Teflon surface. Mine started flaking off after the first use. If this is the “new and improved” model, the original must have a real piece of junk.

Just wanted to add my own take on this product. First, it is only 6 inches wide and that does not accommodate any of the flatbreads I use (of course they photo it on TV so it looks a lot bigger). Also, it sticks no matter what you do (I predominantly cook meats) and the coating is already gone in some places after only two uses. If you use the little double pan they send with it, it will steam your meat instead of crisping it. I let it heat the insert for almost 5 minutes and it still wasn’t hot enough to hear the sizzling sound when you put in the meat. I also tried to cook eggs in the insert and they didn’t cook for over 8 minutes. So they either sent me a bad one, or it’s not as good as they claim. My chicken breasts were literally floating in their fluids. Yuk! But I do have to say that when I just use the machine without the inserts, it cooks boneless chicken and pork with crisp outsides and tender insides. But trying to scrape off the crust will damage the coating. I have sprayed nonstick and oil on it and it still sticks. The juices also leak out the back and get on the counter, but that’s really not that big of a deal. I haven’t tried veggies or cake yet, I really don’t want to eat undone cake or have to scrape it out of the machine. Hope you have better results than me.

I order mine and going to use foil. I agree the shipping is a scam but on the other hand if i can stop eating fast food it’s worth it. For people asking about grease from meat nothing is as good as nuwave oven. I am going to use both. I need to make a better one and charge 80.00. They made a great product but quality is sad.

I ordered this product and must say I like it. However, I ordered the extra pans for $19.95 and like Peach thought you got 4 pans. When I got the two pans I called and complained about the false advertising so they sent me a third pan (the one they are now sending free with the purchase). This was in May. Today I get two more pans and an invoice showing my credit card was charged $19.95 I called to find out why they sent me these extra pans and charged me and was told that when you order the extra pans you have joined a club and will get two pans every two months (how many pans could they have to send you two different pans every two months?). I went back into the website like I was ordering and can’t see where they state that the extra pans are part of a monthly club. The recipe club is very clear but the pans are a “gotcha”. I’m keeping the extra two pans for $19.95 because it will cost me almost as much to send them back (since they do not refund the original shipping charge). This is definitely a buyer beware!

I bought mine two weeks ago and I love it. It really does cook quickly and it makes awesome omelets and pizzas. My four year old loves to help me make her lunches in it. The mini cakes are awesome and I heat up the frosting and pour it on the top to make a gooey treat late at night. The Teflon started to chip last week, if I had known to use tin foil I would have done that. I still love the product and I am getting one for my father in law for his birthday.

Well, we just got our redi set go and made a pizza pocket for the hubby using pita bread, cheese and cubed pepperoni. Hubby is a pizza pocket fanatic and they’re so expensive we thought we’d try this route. Well, he LOVES it. Says it’s faster, crispier, tastier and he feels healthier than the pre-packaged pizza pockets not to mention we can add any ingredients inside and he’s not stuck with just pepperoni. Tomorrow I’m making him stuffed soup…we’ll see how he likes that.

I ordered one a couple of days ago. All I did was carefully read the instructions on the web site as I placed the order and I did not get charged for recipes, or pans or anything I did not want. The process was very smooth and I got a confirmation stating how ,uch my credit card would be billed.

I am going to use non-stick aluminum foil on mine when I get it to eliminate any non-stick problems. There is a Yahoo group called Xpress 101 and Cathy is on there everyday giving advice. It costs nothing to join.

You should always order products like this with a Virtual Credit Card with forced limit ($10 over the initial amount is what I do) and a short expiration date (2 months).

Works great for me. The compay usually calls a few months later to say they cant bill me for –add-ons– I didn’t want in the first place. Then the credit card company calls about potential fraud (for numerous denied transactions). I call them both idiots and laugh!

  45. I have to ask Desi what she used to cook her pocket - the insert or the machine without it? If it was crisp, how long did you warm it up and then cook it, because I couldn’t get mine hot enough with the insert. For Jan, it’s kind of a wind up timer - just spin it to the desired minutes you need. If it doesn’t spin, you have problems with a faulty one. And I hope Karen gives feedback on the brownies. I guess you have to buy their cookbook before they divulge their secrets on box mixes. I’ve read all of the mails so far, and it looks like the interior is a problem. But no one has offered any opinion on the inserts yet. I’d like to hear about their take on them, too.

We bought two of the Ready-Set-Go cookers and we are very happy with them! With two units going at the same time, we can cook an entire meal for two people without heating up the kitchen with the stove or oven. Clean up is quick and easy too!

I do, however, agree that the shipping and handling fees are too high.

I just got the Xpress and was loving it. BUT, I tried the spanish rice recipe and it was a disaster! The recipe called for 1 cup rice, 1 cup water and 1 cup V8 juice. Adding all three spilled over everything. The rice alone was too much for the two reservoirs. Was the recipe for another pan?

I got 3 ready-set-go, one for my daughter and 2 for us.

    1. I ordered them on line so I did not have the problems of other users that got charge for some of the other products the company sell.

    2. The product is well designed and works as advertise. The recipes are great and I got from another source a compilation of most of the recipes for the grill (http://www.ourgrnbusiness.com/xpress_redi_set_go.html)

    3. The inserts make the grill very versatile. It would be nice when they release the waffle insert.

    4. The quality of the product is average but the coating is terrible. I studied all the way to protect the coating, I have been very careful and in less than 2 month the coating is peeling off mainly on the lid, but also start on the bottom. I’m sure that calling customer service will not help even if they replace it, in few weeks it will be the same. I am looking in ways to remove the coating and just grease it well before using it. It is a shame. I wish they would have chosen stainless steel with no coating.

I looked in way to redo the non-sticky coating by myself but from all the info I got it is not possible.

In summary because of the very low quality non-stick coating I would not recommend this product that otherwise would be great.

  51. Dave
    2:55 pm on January 7th, 2010

I think overall the idea of this product is pretty good and I’m sure that the xpress redi set go works really well, but like Terry stated, the non-stick coating has me concerned. But I guess if you use the plastic spatula and be careful not to scrap it, it should last about as normal as a regular non-stick pan.

  52. pandora
    11:32 pm on January 16th, 2010

I bought the grill and like it but after a few times the non stick began to peel off. The timer also quit. I called the company and they promptly replaced the unit for free as it was purchased within the year warranty. That was a nice bonus…
I hope to learn to cook with it more frequently, Im still learning!
p.s. if you buy the insertable cake pan, it will help if your unit happens to be peeling (teflon) and is over 1 year old (outside the warranty period.)
